![]() ![]() Oftentimes while performing a simple Ollie or Manual, the bird model will freak out for no reason. ![]() As I touched upon earlier in the review, while the game isn’t frustratingly difficult in and of itself, sometimes the game’s quality makes things more difficult than they should be.Īt times, SkateBIRD can be unstable. While the game is fun to play for a while, it does lack a certain polish. So while I have found the game fun so far, do I think SkateBIRD lives up to the hype? Personally, no. There was one song, a remix of bird sounds, which I enjoyed. The game featured enjoyable instrumentals as well. Luckily, part of the slew of unlockables you can find is new music. Speaking of collectibles, the game features some pretty cool music, but it did get old quick. SkateBIRD features a ton of unlockables from new decks, hats, customization options, and more. One of my favorite features of video games are collectibles, which adds replayability. The fact that it features cute birds is a bonus. The player is also given ample time to complete missions, making SkateBIRD a good introduction skate game for kids who might find THPS or Skate too difficult. The missions are often pretty simple, although at times challenging but not frustrating. The game has a generous difficulty level. All the bird NPCs you come across also have distinctive designs. ![]() For example, the first stage takes place in the Toy Story-esque environment of your owner’s room with pizza boxes acting as ramps, dental floss acting as grind rails, and Thrusher (get it?) magazines as makeshift quarter pipes. The game was developed by Glass Bottom Games and released on Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PC, and Amazon Luna.įor the most part, the level design in SkateBIRD is creative and imaginative. SkateBIRD is a game where you play as a fully customizable bird who loves to shred in their Big Friend’s room. Until now, these two interests were totally unrelated, however, SkateBIRD changes that. Like the relaxed control scheme, SkateBIRD’s customization options are all about self expression. When I was in elementary school, my best friend loved two things – skateboarding and birds. Become the world’s first tiny hawk to pull off a backside 540 or see if a pygmy parrot can nosestall on a magazine halfpipe. Don a cowboy hat or a fez while shredding around your Big Friend’s office, or keep it mellow and strap a backpack on for a quick session in the bedroom. In skateBIRD, it’s all going to be about the birds and this will see you choosing from more than 30 species of birds and kit them out with wild wardrobes. Grow your flock and wow them with fluttering flicks, owlsome combos, and impeckable tricks. Or free skate through the world at a leisurely pace. You’ll also get to rack up high scores, and complete missions to progress through stages ranging from your Big Friend’s bedroom to a scenic rooftop and a sick server room prime for top-secret sessions. ![]() You’ll get to tackle five levels flush with trickable materials and DIY parks, as you boardslide down staplers, 360 flip off a repurposed eraser kicker ramp, and carve perfect bowls-just watch out for leftover cereal! In SkateBIRD, pulling off tricks is nice, but doing your best is really all that matters. Grind, flip, and spin through stages while completing challenges to unlock fancy new gear, fresh fits, and secret mixtapes jammed with lo-fi beats for the bird boarders to chill and skate to. A world away from Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, but strangely aligned to Skate City, in SkateBIRD you’ll get to wrap a talon around intuitive, accessible controls that make linking together free-flowing lines a breeze. ![]()
